Tomas Antonic — classical guitar/contemporary improvisations

May 18

the Bar

Tomas Antonic is a guitarist, composer, and educator currently residing in the Milwaukee area. He began playing guitar at age seven by picking out melodies from his favorite classic rock recordings. He has studied with Milwaukee area jazz guitarists, Steve Peplin and Paul Silbergleit, as well as a year of intensive classical training with Dr. Michael Kudirka. In 2015 he attended the Berklee College of Music on scholarship, where he studied with Richie Hart and Mick Goodrick.

Since returning to Milwaukee in 2016, Antonic has been an active member of the Milwaukee music scene. He is currently a member of the bands Matchstick, The Ruby Yacht House Band, Devin Drobka Standards Trio, and Etudes Trio. His freelance work includes performances with Jamie Breiwick, Mark Davis, Andrew Trim, Lenard Simpson, Clay Schaub, Jonathan Greenstein, CNJ Latin Jazz, Billy Johnson, and many others. Tomas’ most recent project is the Hendrix-inspired power trio Antonic/Christensen/Shiner, a collaborative effort that blends the sound of his first love- the Fender Stratocaster- with the complex rhythms, forms, and harmonies of contemporary improvised music.

When he is not performing, Antonic is actively involved in music education, teaching at University School of Milwaukee, and giving private lessons from his home. He is also a regular guest clinician/educator for The West End Conservatory, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and MYSO programs.
